In a very emotional passing of the proverbial torch, Kenenisa Bekele sprinted to victory in the Men's 10,000-meter Track and Field Final on Friday evening. Bekele claimed victory over defending Gold Medalist and fellow Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie. After crossing the finish line, Bekele turned and waited for his countryman and mentor, and the two commenced in a mutual victory lap. This was most likely Haile Gebrselassie's last race on the track, as he plans on moving up to the marathon distance.
Former Clemson Tiger Shawn Crawford won his heat of an unusually quick first round of the Men's 100-meter Track and Field prelims, and he didn't even remove his hat. "I just went there to execute my race and stay cool," Crawford said.
